What you should know about Kansas Rep. Avery Anderson
AVERY'S CAREER
Avery Anderson, the state representative for Newton, Sedgwick and Whitewater, was elected in 2020, right after college, while living at home with his parents.

Avery's 2024 Video Scandal
Avery made statewide news in 2024 for a leaked video where he admitted to egging on his buddy, another legislator, to jump on a girl passed out in a bed after a night of them all drinking. The police report shows he admitted to it, but then changed his story once he got calls from "media inquiring about this incident."

Multiple women in 2024 say Avery abused them

A filing in Avery's Uber lawsuit also shows how often he uses Uber from when he was first elected through March 16, 2024. During that time, as an elected official, Avery used Uber 128 times between 11 p.m.- 4 a.m (highlighted below), indicating lots of late nights out.

Lies about living in Newton
Police said the video scandal happened in July 2023 at a Wichita apartment, so since Avery has been in office. The Kansas Constitution (Article 2, Section 4) says that a legislator must reside in their district.
Donations from Lobbyists and PACs
The three most recent years of available data show 85% of Avery's donations come from lobbyists and PACs. Only 5% of his donations come from within the legislative district.

In 2025, lobbyists spent more money wining and dining Avery than any of the other 165 Kansas legislators.

Avery's political friends
Hunter Larkin (left) sued Uber alongside Avery. Larkin got a DUI in 2021 while elected as the Goddard mayor and then resigned in 2022 after making news for unethical campaign donations from city contractors. He led a government coup in 2023 to get reinstated as mayor before leaving office after outcries from residents calling for his resignation.
Rep. Kyler Sweely (right), who jumped on the girl in Avery's home video, got elected in 2024 despite Reno County Republicans taking him to court for not living in the district.
Sweely set up an address in the district a few days before the filing deadline.
